As an important figure in New York City’s experimental music scene since 2002, composer/clarinetist Jeremiah Cymerman and his solo work has been described by Evan Parker as “an astonishing achievement” and by John Zorn as taking “the sonic language of the clarinet to startling and surprising places.”  In 2013, through a series of performances in different cities, Cymerman will be developing a new piece for solo clarinet and electronics entitled Book of Dead.  Drawing inspiration from the writings of Chogyam Trungpa, Book of Dead is a much more subtle and meditative piece than most of Cymerman’s previous solo work.  Moving at a slower pace, observing more silence and focussing on the more intimate wooden qualities of the instrument, Book of Dead marks a new direction for Jeremiah Cymerman.

This performance is made possible in part by a grant from New Music USA’s Metlife Creative Connections Program.
